Broadband Speed Check

Check your Broadband Speed

To check your broadband speed, simply click on the Start Speed Test button and wait until the broadband speed check completes. Is your Internet Service Provider's Broadband Speed too low? Start checking your Broadband Speed now to find out how your internet speed compares to others.

First, you should check how your broadband provider compares to others. This broadband speed checker compares your broadband speed with the average speed of the most popular broadband providers. This broadband speed tool checks the time it takes your browser to download a binary file of a fixed size and then provides you the resulting speed measured in megabits per second (Mbit/s or Mbps). Caution: for accurate results, while you run the broadband speed check you should disable all applications that download data from the Internet such as internet radio, chat, email, messenger etc.

The Broadband Check Web Servers connect to the Internet with a redundant 100 Mbit/s line using a Tier 1 Internet Service Provider located in a Peering Point in the Level 3 building in Goswell Road, Central London. The speed checker works by measuring the bottleneck where the bandwidth between your web browser and our web server is restricted. The bottleneck is normally located in the last mile's ADSL line, cable network or wireless network connecting you to the Internet. This last-mile or local loop connection is usually contended (shared) and consequently you often don't get the full broadband speed advertised by your service provider.

Be careful when comparing your broadband speed with the average for your Internet Service Provider (ISP). Be fair to your ISP - If you are using DSL, establish whether the quality of your DSL line is limiting your broadband speed. Use our DSL checker to find this out. If there is no problem with your broadband line quality, then go ahead and compare broadband providers and if your contract is out of term, you can start switching broadband provider.
